Dubai International airport handled more than 4.2 million passengers in September, a 6.2 per cent increase on the same time last year.
Total passenger traffic in September touched 4,236,587. Traffic year-to-date has reached more than 37.5 million, which is a 7.8 per cent rise over the same period in 2010.
In August, the airport handled more than four million passengers (MEED 26:9:11).
The largest increase in total passenger numbers came from the GCC, Western Europe, India and Russia and the CIS countries. The fall in traffic on Middle Eastern routes continued in September.
Total aircraft movements in September reached 26,860, a 6.8 per cent rise on the figures from last year. In terms of freight, Dubai International handled 177,128 tonnes, a 5.5 per cent decline. To date, freight volumes reached just over 1.6 million tonnes.
“We have had a good year so far in terms of passenger traffic and with the Islamic pilgrimage of hajj just a few days away, we expect to see already robust passenger numbers surge over the coming weeks,” says Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports.
