Plan Dubai 2021 outlines goals for the next seven years
Dubai has launched its 2021 Dubai Plan that sets key objectives for the emirate over the next seven years.
While no specific details or economic targets were disclosed, Dubai says it will aim to further develop its position as a world city with a diversified economy that embodies fundamental principles such as sustainability, transparency, entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity.
The launch event was held on the beachfront at Jumeirah Beach Residences on 17 December and was attended by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed al-Maktoum along with senior members of Dubai government entities. During the event, Sheikh Hamdan received a letter from his father, Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, delivered by a drone. The letter said that Dubai remains committed to growth and sustainability.
Dubais economic outlook has improved significantly over the past three years as it emerges out of the financial crisis that engulfed it in 2009.
Two of the key drivers for the economy over the coming seven years are expected to be the 2020 Expo and the $33bn expansion of Al-Maktoum International airport in the Jebel Ali area. Supporting these two megaprojects will be other transport, hospitality, retail, and real estate schemes.
