New aircraft to join carrier’s fleet next year

DAE Capital, the leasing arm of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE), has signed a lease agreement with Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air for five Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

The new aircraft are expected to join Bahrain’s fleet starting next year.

The planes are expected to help Gulf Air “expand its network, facilitating the long-term expansion of the airline's future network requirement.”

So far, Boeing has significantly outscored its French rival Airbus in terms of new deals at the ongoing Dubai Airshow.

On 14 November, it signed a purchase agreement worth an estimated $1.3bn with Ethiopian Airlines for four 777-300 freighters.

On 12 November, Boeing signed a deal with Azerbaijan Airlines for seven 787 Dreamliners.

Boeing also signed the largest deal so far during the show: a $15.2bn deal with Dubai-based Emirates Airline for 40 B787-10 Dreamliners, which was announced on the show’s opening day.

No further development has been reported so far on the expected deal for up to 40 A380s between Emirates and Airbus.
