Roads & Transport Authority aims to ease traffic congestion
More than 110,000 people used the Dubai Metro in the first two days of operation. Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) says that 67,000 passengers used the $7.6bn metro on 10 September. A further 47,000 people used the metro the following day.
About 4,000 passengers an hour have used the railway, exceeding the authority’s expectations.
The metro has experienced delays and problems, particularly with passengers using emergency alarms on trains.
However, the authority says that after an initial grace period, it is now issuing fines to people breaking the rules.
Dubai hopes the metro will ease traffic congestion and reinvigorate the local economy.
