Dubai moves into Bahrain

18 November 2005
Dubai International Properties (DIP), a subsidiary of Dubai Holding, has announced plans for a AED 2,000 million ($545 million) resort in the kingdom, called Salam Beach Resort & Spa. The development will be located on the coast about 25 kilometres to the southwest of central Manama.

Due for completion in 2009, the resort will occupy a site of about 500,000 square metres and will include a five-star hotel, villas, retail facilities and a spa. There will also be a network of canals with a total length of about five kilometres. According to DIP, the project is targeted mainly at GCC and European tourists.

DIP is developing a similar resort in Oman, the estimated $820 million Salam Yiti Lifestyle Resort & Spa, and plans to extend the brand elsewhere. The firm is also undertaking major projects in Qatar, Morocco and Turkey (MEED 28:10:05; 23:9:05).
