Contractor gives more time to bidders to prepare proposals
Dubai Police has set a new tender closing date of 22 September for its AED1bn ($272m) contract to build a police training college.
The bid deadline was extended from 16 August until after Ramadan to give bidders more time to prepare their proposals (MEED 3:8:09).
The project, to be built off the Outer Bypass road, involves the construction of a main teaching building and other associated structures.
The building will replace the existing police academy on Sheikh Zayed road, close to the fourth interchange opposite the Mall of the Emirates.
In 2008, local developer Sama Dubai said it planned to build a mixed-use residential development, which it wanted to call Jumeirah Hills, on the site of the existing police academy.
As part of the project, Sama Dubai had planned to build the police academy at the new site. However, the developer put the project on hold in November 2008, along with other developments.
Sama Dubai had selected the local Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises as its contractor on the project.
Dubai Police are now managing the development directly. The UAE’s Arenco is the consultant.
