Dubai Properties to start work on garden city in 2009

11 September 2008
Local developer Dubai Properties plans to start infrastructure works on its AED200bn ($54bn) Mohammed bin Rashid Gardens project at the start of 2009.

The 88-square kilometre project will be built between Al-Khail road and Emirates road from its existing Business Bay project and the Arabian Ranches roundabout area on Emirates road.

The plan for the project was recently approved by Dubai Municipality, and plans for roads and other transportation systems are being finalised with the Roads & Transportation Authority.

The project is expected to be made up of four main clusters themed around wisdom, humanity, nature and commerce.

About 73 per cent of the total area - approximately 60 square kilometres - will be covered in vegetation.

The city also has a canal running through it from the Business Bay Creek extension that is being built by Dubai Properties and the Roads & Transport Authority, leading into the Gulf in the Al-Sufouh area (MEED 5:5:08).
