A fleet of 70 buses will improve connectivity to and from the expo site in Dubai South

Dubai's Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) is ramping up connectivity between the Expo 2020 site in Dubai South and the rest of the UAE in a bid to enhance ease of travel for visitors.

RTA plans to deploy 70 buses that will run a total of 193 daily trips on weekdays, and 213 daily trips on Thursdays and Fridays, between the expo site and nine locations across Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Fujairah, Ajman and Ras al-Khaimah.

Mattar Mohammed al-Tayer, RTA director-general and chairman of the board of executive directors, said Dubai has dedicated a full fleet of public buses compatible with the low-carbon-emission standards of Euro 6 buses as part of the master operational plan for transporting Expo 2020 visitors.

As well as as enabling a lower carbon foorprint, it is understood the buses are designed to accommodate people of determination.

In June 2021, RTA announced that it was undertaking an integrated transport project to enhance mobility around nine Expo 2020 bus stations in Dubai.

In collaboration with Nakheel, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Tecom and Dubai Properties, the project will introduce multi-modal means to access bus stations in Al-Baraha, Al-Ghubaiba, Al-Jafiliya, Business Bay 2, Dubai Silicon Oasis, International City, Palm Jumeirah, Etisalat and Union.

It is understood the project will add 45 kilometres to the cycling tracks network, which "renders expo bus stations as an excellent model of integrated and environmentally friendly stations".

Six out of the seven stations on the Route 2020 extension of Dubai Metro are now operational. The service linking to the Expo 2020 station is restricted to authorised personnel until 1 October, when the expo opens. The launch of the Jumeirah Golf Estates Station will also coincide with the opening of the event.
