Two new interchanges needed due to growing traffic at Dubai International airport

Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has received bids from consultants for the design and supervision of two interchanges on Airport road.

The bidders are:

  1. Aecom (US)
  2. Dar al-Handasah (Lebanon)
  3. CH2M Hill Halcrow (US)
  4. KEO International Consultants (local office)
  5. Louis Berger (US)
  6. Parsons International (US)

Mattar al-Tayer, chairman of the RTA, said last year that improvements to the roads surrounding Dubai International airport “must” be completed by 2017 and 2020 to help manage the projected increase in passengers passing through the emirate’s airport.

Dubai International has seen consistently rising passenger numbers and is expected to handle more than 90 million passengers a year by 2020. The airport is expanding terminals and building new concourses to provide the much-needed additional capacity.
