Projects will be at Dubai International and Maktoum International airports
Dubai has received prequalification documents from contractors for upcoming airport construction projects at both Dubai International airport and Maktoum International airport.
Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP), the government agency that manages airport developments in the emirate, has asked firms to prequalify for two categories of work.
The first is for terminals, concourses, cargo terminals and support facility building contracts worth more than AED1bn ($272m).
The second is for infrastructure contracts covering site grading, tunnelling, runways, stands and roads valued at more than AED1bn.
The passenger terminal at Dubais new Al-Maktoum International airport officially opened on 27 October 2013 when it welcomed its first commercial flight.
The airport has one Airbus A380-compatible runway and a capacity to handle 5 million passengers a year, expandable to 7 million passengers. The airport operator, Dubai Airports, is currently finalising a masterplan that will outline the phase 2 expansion plans for the airport.
The operators long-term goal is to offer a passenger capacity of 160 million passengers a year by the 2020s.
