According to a Dewa official, the prices submitted by the companies were too high.
The bidders were Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, Hyundia Engineering & Construction and Hyundai Heavy Industries, all of South Korea.
Dewa issued a retender notice for phase one of the project to the bidders on 1 May. The deadline for new bids is 8 July. A new tender for phase two is expected to follow shortly.
The first phase of station P will have a capacity of 120 million gallons a day (g/d) of desalinated water and 1,500MW of power. The second phase of the plant will have the same power generation capacity and a desalination capacity of 100-120 million g/d (MEED 26:3:08).
