Dubai sets new road construction deadlines

Projects cover the upgrade of highways and interchanges across the emirate

The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has set new tender closing dates for six major road construction contracts in Dubai.

The RTA has set a closing date of 25 August for the Comprehensive Improvements of the Parallel Roads. The consultant for the project is US-based Parsons. The original closing date was 11 August.

The tender for the upgrade of Latifa Bint Hamdan Street in Al-Quoz is also due to be submitted on 25 August. The consultant is CDM Smith. The original closing date was 18 August.

Two tenders have a deadline of 30 August. The first is the improvement of Interchange 7 on Sheikh Zayed Road in the Jebel Ali area. The consultant for the project is the local office of Aurecon. Aurecon is also the consultant for the other tender. That contract is for the Extension of Tripoli Road and the Improvement of Algeria Street in the Mirdif area. The original closing date was 16 August.

The other two contracts have a closing date of 1 September. They are for the upgrade of the Dubai to Al-Ain Road. The consultant for all three of those contracts is US-based CDM Smith.

The prospective bidders for the road contracts are:

  • · China State Construction Engineering Corporation (China)
  • · Dutco Balfour Beatty (local/UK)
  • · Khansaheb Civil Engineering (local)
  • · Wade Adams Contracting (local)

The RTA is also expected to tender construction packages on the Shindagha corridor scheme later this year. The RTA awarded the local Wade Adams Contracting a AED611m ($166m) contract for the upgrade of an intersection as part of the Shindagha corridor scheme in February.
