Dubai World opens its big umbrella

Dubai World, a holding company of the Dubai government, was formally launched on 2 July. The new group will comprise about 20 companies and include DP World, P&O, Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority (Jafza), Nakheel, Dubai Drydocks, Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), Istithmar, Inchcape Shipping Services, One & Only, Tejari, Tamweel, Kerzner, Dubai Maritime City, Island Global Yachting, Limitless, Atlantis and Technopark. Through its subsidiaries, the holding company has substantial overseas assets, offices in 75 countries and more than 45,000 employees.

Sultan bin Sulayem will chair the board, which also includes Ports & Free Zone Authority chief executive officer (CEO) Jamal Majid bin Thaniah, Dubai Customs director-general Ahmed Bhutti Ahmed, Limitless CEO Saeed Ahmad Saeed, Nakheel CEO Chris O'Donnell, Dubai Islamic Bank CEO Saad Abdul Razak, Dubai Drydocks CEO Geoff Taylor, Dubai World group financial officer Maryam Sharaf, Emirates Bank chief manager Suleiman al-Mazrouei, DMCC CEO David Rutledge, Istithmar CEO David Jackson, Istithmar Real Estate CEO Alan Rogers, Tejari CEO Omar Hijazi and Khulood al-Rostamani.
