Dutch firm wins deal to automate Khalifa port gate system

The automated gate system will increase efficiency and accuracy

Dutch firm Dalosy Industrial Systems has signed a contract with Abu Dhabi Terminals to automate a gate control system for the Khalifa port container terminal.

The terminal is scheduled to open in late 2012 and will be the region’s first semi-automated facility. The gates will use Active Radio- Frequency Identification (RFID), Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and traffic control equipment.

The system is designed to streamline heavy vehicle movement through the port and means that the process will be controlled centrally. The OCR and a position detection system will also be able to track each containers movement making operations more efficient.

Dalosy Industrial Systems also signed a five-year on-site maintenance and support agreement.

Abu Dhabi Terminals won the contract to operate the new Khalifa Port at the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (Kizad) in March 2011 (MEED 28:3:11).
