Egypt is planning to introduce a net-metering scheme for small-scale solar projects up to 20MW, according to the New & Renewable Energy Authority (Nrea).
Speaking at the Middle East Electricity conference in Dubai on 8 March, Ehab Farouk Abd el-Aziz, manager of planning, Nrea, said that the net metering scheme had been devised in 2017 and would be rolled out in 2018.
Egypt is currently undertaking a number of clean energy projects to boost capacity and diversify fuel resources for power. El-Aziz said that 900MW of renewable energy capacity had been installed in the country, with 400MW under construction and 4,000MW under development.
