The New & Renewable Energy Authority has signed a memorandum of understanding with Italgen, a subsidiary of the Italcementi group, for the development of a wind farm in the Gabal al-Zeit area on the Red Sea coast.

Under the agreement, Italgen will carry out a feasibility study for a wind farm of up to 400 MW on the site.

The study is due to be completed in mid-2008. The Gabal al-Zeit area has a potential total capacity of 3,000 MW.
