Egypt takes steps to boost tourism

07 January 2009

Egypt plans to exempt hotels from paying contributions to the country's tourism promotion authority and cut fees paid by charter flights to help boost tourism during the global financial crisis. It also will set up a working group to deal with the fallout of the crisis, with measures being reviewed and modified every three months. Hotel bookings in Egypt are down 30% in January 2009 compared to the same month in 2008.
