Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has announced that work on the expansion of Prince Muhammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah is expected to start early next year, Arab News has reported. The multibillion riyal project has attracted eight consortia which will take part in the international bidding to develop, finance and operate the airport that will see its capacity rise to 25 million passengers annually. The first phase of the ongoing expansion project will be completed by 2014, GACA said.
