Eight line up for Al-Raha

Abu Dhabi-based ALDAR Properties has invited eight local and international companies to submit technical and commercial bids by 21 September for the dregding and reclamation package on the Al-Raha beach development project in the emirate. They are Dredging Internationaland Jan de Nul, both of Belgium, Van Oordand Royal Boskalis Westminster, both of the Netherlands, the US' Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, China Harbour Engineering Company, Geneva-registered Archirodon Construction (Overseas)and the local National Marine Dredging Company(MEED 29:4:05).

Estimated to be worth at least AED 500 million ($136 million), the scope of works includes the dredging of about 40 million cubic metres of material along eight kilometres of existing channel at Al-Raha and design and construction of revetments.

The Al-Raha beach project is planned to become a new city district with a built-up area of 12 million square metres, of which 6.8 million square metres will be reclaimed.

Australia's Malone Buchan Laird & Bawden has prepared the concept design; UK-based Maunsell is the infrastructure design and construction management consultant. US-based Parsons Brinckerhoff is the project manager.
