Oman Eighteen companies have applied to prequalify for the contract to develop industrial infrastructure at Sohar port. They include Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC); the local/UK Carillion Alawi; India’s Larsen & Toubro Oman; Bahwan Contracting Company, Galfar Engineering & Contractingand Hassan bin Juma bin Baker Trading & Contracting,all local;the local/German Strabag Oman; STFA, Tekfenand Erko Construction, all of Turkey; and China State Construction Engineering Corporation.
The consultant, Parsons Group Oman Engineering, the local office of the US’ Parsons International, has submitted its evaluation report to the Transport & Communications Ministry. In order to prequalify, contractors will have to fulfil the specific requirements of Japanese funding agencies. The scheme is understood to have attracted part financing from the Japan Bank for International Co-operation (JBIC). The project covers the development of the area’s transport and associated buildings infrastructure, communications, water and wastewater treatment, street lighting and power transmission (MEED 15:11:02).
