Emaar awards key deals for Jeddah development

06 January 2008
Emaar Middle East, the property development arm of Dubai-based Emaar Properties, has awarded contracts to two companies - Al Taafuf and the Saudi Building & Development Management Company - to develop infrastructure for the company’s Jeddah Gate project.

The contracts cover the construction of water, waste management, electricity supply and drainage infrastructure in the development.

Located in the heart of the city, Jeddah Gate is positioned on two sites, the first is spread over 413,000 square metres, located along King Abdullah Street, and the second covers 140,000 square metres along Abdullah al-Suleiman Street. The project will comprise 6,000 residential units, 230,000 square metres of commercial space and 75,000 square metres of gross area for retailers.

Amenities within the development will include schools, offices, mosques, hotel, residential units, walkways and parks. A wide boulevard with high-end retail outlets and restaurants are also included in the development plan.

The $1.6bn mixed-use master-planned development project was launched last year, and will form part of Jeddah’s new downtown area. Turner Arabia is the project manager.
