Emaar flooded with work at Dubai Marina

Tendering activity is accelerating at Dubai Marina. The local Emaar Propertiesis evaluating bids fortwo more contract packages - the shopping mall complex and Marina Quays residential towers - and is preparing to receive bids on 4 December for its Park Island residential development.

At least two local companies have submitted bids for the main construction package on Emaar's shopping mall. The bidders include ALEC and Dhabi Contracting.The project involves the construction of a mixed-use development comprising a shopping mall with 150 retail units and a 38-storey tower with 200 hotel rooms and 400 residential apartments. Earthworks for the project were carried out in July. The local Middle East Foundations (MEF)is expected to complete piling works by year-end. Singapore's DP Architectsis the consultant. US-based Hill Internationalis the project manager (MEED 30:9:05).

Bids were also submitted on 17 November for Emaar's Marina Quays project. The project involves the construction of three residential towers: the 10-storey Marina Quay North and Marina Quay East; and the 39-storey Marina Quay West. An award is expected early next year. MEF has completed the piling, shoring, excavation and dewatering. The local Arif & Bintoakis the lead consultant; the UK's DG Jonesis the cost consultant and quantity surveyor (MEED 8:7:05).

On the other side of the marina, Emaarhas extended the bid deadline to 4 December for the estimated AED 650 million ($177 million) Park Island contract. Canada's NORR Group Consultants Internationalis the consultant (MEED 4:11:05).
