Emirates orders 10 Boeings

13 October 2006
Dubai-based carrier Emirates has signed a contract with The Boeing Company of the US for 10 new 747-8F aircraft in a deal worth up to $5,600 million. The airline also has purchase rights for a further 10 747-8Fs. The aircraft will be used by Emirates freight operator Emirates SkyCargo (MEED 21:7:06).
The contract for the 10 Boeing 747-8Fs, valued at $2,800 million, formalises the agreement signed at the Farnborough

Air Show in July. The aircraft are due to be delivered from 2010.

Emirates is also waiting for the delivery of 45 A380 aircraft from Europe's Airbus. The first deliveries were originally scheduled for October this year, but have been delayed several times and will now arrive in August 2008. Mike Simon, senior vice-president, corporate communications, told MEED on 10 October: 'We have not been speaking about compensation of cancellation, but we have said we are reviewing our options,' (MEED 16:6:06).
