Emirati to lead company for first time, oversee third phase of expansion

Emirates Steel Industries has appointed Saeed Ghumran al-Romaithi as its new chief executive officer (CEO), the Abu Dhabi-based company said.

Al-Romaithi, who was appointed after a board of directors meeting on 26 August, is the first Emirati national to take up the position. He was appointed as part of the Emirates Steel’s strategy for half the workforce to comprise UAE nationals by 2015, up from the current level of 25 per cent, according to the company.

Emirates Steel is currently undergoing the third phase of expansion at its complex in Mussafah in Abu Dhabi, bringing capacity to 1.4 million tonnes a year.

Al-Romaithi replaces the previous CEO Gregor Munstermann, who was appointed to the position in 2009.
