Saudi Arabia has granted EniRepsa Gas an extension to April 2012 on the first phase of gas exploration in the Kingdom's Empty Quarter, Reuters has reported. The exploration period had been expected to end in 2010. Aramco set up four consortia in 203-2004 in order to look for oil in the Empty Quarter, but they have yet to find large volumes so far.
