ETA Ascon wins major prison contract in Dubai

The local ETA Ascon has been awarded the contract to build a new prison at Al-Aweer. Estimated to be worth AED 250 million ($68 million), the contract covers civil, mechanical, electrical and plumbing and related security works (MEED 12:5:00).

The 21-month contract involves the construction of 43 single-storey buildings. They will house an administration block, five separate prison cells for men, women, delinquent boys, delinquent girls and VIPs and staff accommodation. The complex will house at least 9,000 inmates.

The 21-month contract also entails the construction of a mosque, car park and related infrastructure development works. The consultant is Australia's Cox Group. The client is Dubai Police.
