Agreement will boost cargo traffic
Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways has signed a codeshare agreement with the Indonesian carrier Garuda Indonesia.
The agreement comes into effect on 28 October and brings Etihad’s number of codeshare agreements to 42. Etihad signed a similar agreement with Air France-KLM in early October.
Etihad Airways will place its EY code on Garuda Indonesia services between Jakarta and Denpasar in Bali, and Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. Garuda Indonesia will place its GA code on Etihad flights from Jakarta to up to 31 destinations across the GCC, Africa, Europe and North America.
Once granted regulatory approval, the airlines are looking to work together to expand the agreement to include more destinations and to share frequent flyer programmes and airport lounge access.
Not only will the agreement support increased passenger traffic between Europe, the Middle East and Indonesia, it also aims to boost cargo traffic, supporting trade in food, commodities and manufactured goods.
