Bidders prepare to submit offers in September
- Tender closing date extended to 17 September
- Etihad Rail had been locked in negotiations with two shortlisted contracting groups for the second phase for more than a year
Etihad Rail has extended the tender closing date for the contracts to build the second phase of the UAEs national rail network.
Previously, the firm had invited contracting consortiums to submit technical bids by 16 July. The closing date is now 17 September.
The second phase of the railway, which will connect Abu Dhabi with the Saudi border and Dubai, has been tendered before. It previously included a link to Al-Ain that would connect to the Omani rail network with a link running from Buraimi and on to Sohar.
Etihad Rail had been locked in negotiations with two shortlisted contracting groups for the second phase for more than a year. Bids were submitted in November 2012. The two shortlisted groups were understood to be:
- Salini Impregilo (Italy) / Samsung C&T (South Korea) / Tristar (local)
- China Railway Construction Company (China ) / Ghantoot Group (local)
