Europeans scoop substations

Germany's Siemens has been awarded the Eur 29 million ($37 million) Public Establishment of Electricity for Generation & Transmission (PEEGT) turnkey contract to supply four 400/230-kV air-insulated substations to be built at Nasiriyeh, Al-Teem and Palmyra. Other bids came from France's Alstom, Spain's Isolux, Europe's ABB and Iran's Fulmen. The government is financing the project.

Alstom is frontrunner to win another PEEGT contract, involving the supply of two 230/66-kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substations at Aleppo and Baramkeh. Other bidders for the estimated Eur 35 million ($43 million) package include Siemens, Isolux and Austria's VA Tech.

Six bids were submitted on 8 December for a third PEEGT contract to design and supply four 230/66-kV GIS substations at Aleppo North, Al-Hasaka, Al-Raka and Hama. Bidders for the contract include Parisan and Safa Nicu, both of Iran, ABB India, Siemens, India's Bharat Heavy Electrical (BHEL)and Lebanon's Matelecwith ABB Switzerland. PEEGT reissued the tender after it received a late low bid (MEED 21:11:03).
