Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) has received proposals for the design and supervision consultancy package for a major road project that will improve road access between Abu Dhabi Island and Khalifa City.
The scheme covers a series of projects linking Abu Dhabi’s Marina area to Corniche Road, as well as the extension of Al-Maqta Bridge and exit from Khalifa City to Abu Dhabi Island.
The construction work will include a 900-metre tunnel, a steel structure that will add two lanes in each direction to the existing Maqta Bridge, and various free-flowing access ramps.
Musanada has awarded road projects worth an estimated $6.3bn since 2009, according to MEED Projects data.
The infrastructure packages for Shamka South, as well as the Mafraq to Ghuweifat road development, are the largest of these projects.
Shamkha South lies about 12 kilometres west of Abu Dhabi International airport. It comprises 3,980 hectares of previously undeveloped land allocated for the construction of 12,460 villas for UAE citizens - along with a central business district and various community facilities.
Construction work is also under way for the $200m package for contract 2 of the crossing that links Umlifaina Island and Al-Reem Island to the rest of Abu Dhabi.
