EXCLUSIVE: Abu Dhabi tenders dredging package

Dredging package is part of maintenance work for Yas Island

Abu Dhabi’s Transport Department (DoT) has invited marine contractors to bid by 24 May for a dredging package for the Yas Island navigation channel.

MEED understands the tender calls for dredging 600,000 cubic metres of sand as part of the island’s maintenance work.

Yas Island is home the Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld themeparks.

Local developer Miral and US-based Seaworld Entertainment are also developing a SeaWorld theme park in the island.

In February, Miral invited contractors to express interest in the project.

The Seaworld project is part of Miral’s broader plans to double visitor numbers to Yas Island to 48 million by the year 2022.

In December last year, Miral awarded Netherlands-based Bam International the contract to build the arena, plaza and retail area at the AED12bn ($3.3bn) Yas Bay master development in Abu Dhabi.
