EXCLUSIVE: Aramco prepares to award two offshore contracts

Bidders are McDermott, Larsen and Toubro, NPCC, Saipem and Dynamic Industries

Saudi Aramco is considering bids for two offshore projects worth a total of $350m.

Contractors submitted bids on 5 April.

One of them is a project to install nine oil platforms at the Zuluf Field, worth an estimated $150m.

The other is a a project to install ten oil platform jackets at the Marjan, Safaniya, and Abu Safah fields, which is estimated to be worth $200m

“Bids for both projects were submitted on the same day and we are expecting the contracts to be awarded at some point over coming weeks,” an industry source said.

The bidders for the project are companies from Aramco’s long-term agreement (LTA) group of five offshore engineering contractors.

LTA-approved contractors are:

  • Saipem (Italy)
  • Larsen & Toubro Hydrocarbon Engineering (India) / Subsea 7 (from the UK, which acquired the Saudi Arabia unit of Singapore’s EMAS Chiyoda)
  • Dynamic Industries (Saudi Arabia)
  • McDermott International (US)
  • National Petroleum Construction Company (UAE)

The package for ten oil platform jackets is part of a larger Safaniya field development project, which is expected to be worth about $15bn.
