The project client has completed the technical interviews with bidders for the contract to build a metro station in Al-Khor as part of the Doha Metro Red Line North extension.
The Al-Khor metro station will link with the Al-Bayt stadium, which is being built for the 2022 Fifa World Cup.
The groups that submitted a bid for the contract on 29 July include:
- FCC (Spain) / Consolidated Contractors Company (Lebanon)
- Porr (Austria) / HBK Contracting (local) / Midmac (local)
- Rizzani de Eccher (Italy) / Redco International (local)
- Salini Impregilo (Italy) / SK Engineering & Construction (South Korea)
- Yapi Merkezi (Turkey) / STFA (Turkey) / Al-Jaber Engineering (local)
The metro link is an essential component of the interconnected public transport required for holding the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Doha.
In July, it was announced that Turkey’s Tekfen Construction won the contract to build track works for the metro extension. The works will extend from the under-construction Red Line North to the planned metro station in Al-Khor.
The track follows the same alignment as the $2.1bn Al-Khor Expressway, which Tekfen won in 2016. The expressway is expected to be completed in 2019.
