Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa) is preparing to issue tender documents for its next major solar independent power project (IPP) in February.
According to sources close to the scheme, the utility will invite consultants to bid for advisory roles on a 300MW photovoltaic (PV) solar project, which will be the fifth phase of the emirate’s ambitious Mohammed bin Rashid (MBR) Solar Park.
In September last year, Dewa awarded a contract worth AED14bn ($3.8bn) to Saudi Arabia’s Acwa Power to develop the fourth phase of the MBR park, a 700MW concentrated solar power (CSP) solar project.
The first two phases of the MBR park have been commissioned, with the 200MW second phase having started operations in April 2017.
Dubai is targeting for the solar park to produce 5,000MW of electricity by 2030.
