The $3bn Anahita refinery project is delayed due to financing problems, according to industry sources.
The refinery is under execution in Iran’s Kermanshah Province.
“This project is one of many oil projects that are seeing delays due to financing problems,” one source says. “Though it isn’t officially on hold, I don’t expect much progress to be made over coming months.”
When complete, the refinery will have a capacity of 150,000 barrels a day (b/d).
It is being built on a greenfield site and was designed to replace the existing 22,000-b/d refinery in Kermanshah City.
The Anahita oil refinery is intended to provide downstream products to meet the needs of Iran’s Kermanshah, Ilam and Kurdistan provinces.
The project was initially launched more than a decade ago and has seen several significant setbacks due to funding problems.
The main contract was awarded to the local Mehrarad Business & Development in 2015.
