Kuwait’s Public Works Ministry expects to separately tender a pedestrian bridge and two road intersection packages in the second half of 2018.
The pedestrian bridge is to be located along Fahad al-Salem Street, while two packages will be tendered for three intersections in Al-Jahra – one on Surra and two on Al-Sabah al-Salem Street.
According to a source familiar with the projects, the designs for the packages have been completed and approved.
“We expect to tender more road packages this year in line with the overall plan to improve the infrastructure and address [road] congestion,” the source told MEED.
An estimated $2.9bn-worth of road projects are currently under bid in Kuwait, with a further $3bn under design, according to regional projects tracker MEED Projects.
Kuwait awarded road contracts worth $1.77bn in 2017, less than half the overall contract value awarded in 2016, the best year for Kuwait’s road projects sector to date.
MEED understands the team comprising Turkey’s Makyol and local company Contec United General Contracting is expecting to receive the signed contract for the road projects package at South al-Mutlaa City soon.
The team bid $361m for the contract, higher than the $314m offer made by a team comprising Metallurgical Corporation of China and local firm Ali Al-Kharafi & Brothers Construction.
