Expansion planned at Abu Dhabi University

Plans to expand the Abu Dhabi University campus at Khalifa City are taking shape. The estimated AED 200 million ($54 million) project calls for the construction of two new colleges, auditoriums, laboratories and leisure facilities covering 4 million square feet.
Plans to expand the Abu Dhabi University campus at Khalifa City are taking shape. The estimated AED 200 million ($54 million) project calls for the construction of two new colleges, auditoriums, laboratories and leisure facilities covering 4 million square feet.

The development is to be implemented in three phases. The first phase will cater for 5,000 students and is due for completion by September 2006. Phases two and three will take total capacity to 10,000 students.

Bids for the overall masterplan contract are under evaluation with an award expected in mid-September. A separate tender for design consultants is also due to be issued in September with an award scheduled by November.

Enabling work is scheduled to begin in April 2005 and will be followed by the release of tenders for the main construction packages.

Abu Dhabi University is the client. The UK's Mace Internationalis the project manager.
