FEED contractor selected for ExxonMobil GTL scheme

US-based Fluor Danielhas received a letter of intent for the front-end engineering and design (FEED) package on the proposed gas-to-liquids (GTL) project, planned by Qatar Petroleum (QP)and the US' ExxonMobil Corporation. The contract, which also contains an option for the US-based firm to provide project management consultancy services, is expected to be signed once QP and ExxonMobil have resolved outstanding issues on the establishment of a joint venture company (MEED 9:2:01).

Fluor carried out the preliminary study for the GTL project and was one of three US-based firms competing for the FEED contract. It will be assisted on its latest assignment by Qatar Kentz, which will provide local assistance. The QP/ExxonMobil team is proposing a 102,000-barrel-a-day GTL project, which will use ExxonMobil's proprietary AGC-21 technology.

The project is one of seven GTL schemes proposed for Ras Laffan. The most advanced is the QP/ Sasolproject, known as QGTL. Financial close and the signing of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) package with Paris-based Technip-Coflexipare scheduled to take place in late January (MEED 10:1:03).
