FEED out for Sohar pipeline

Consultants have been invited to prequalify for the contract to draw up front-end engineering and design studies for a proposed 200-kilometre mixed feedstock pipeline to link Mina al-Fahal with the planned Sohar refinery. A request for proposal (RFP) documents is due to be issued in late January for the contract, which also entails drawing up detailed tender documents for the main engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) package (MEED 11:10:02).

The UK's Mott MacDonaldhas completed initial conceptual studies for the pipeline, which will supply the 125,000-barrel-a-day refinery with a mixture of crude oil for refining into middle distillates and long residues for cracking into ethylene. Oman Refinery Companyis the client. Total project costs are estimated at between $150 million-200 million.

A Japanese team of JGC Corporationwith Chiyoda Corporationis to carry out the main EPC contract for the Sohar refinery project. US-based ABB Lummus Globalis the project manager (MEED 10:1:03).
