The local Copri Construction Enterprises and BurhanInternational Contracting Companyhave been awarded two construction packages, totalling $94 million, on the fifth ring-road extension project in Kuwait City.

Copri's KD 23 million ($73 million) contract involves an upgrade of the three-kilometre-long section between Fahaheel expressway and Al-Taawin street. It also calls for the ring-road to be converted into a motorway, together with associated modifications to existing intersections and roundabouts.

Burhan won the second package with a bid of KD 6.1 million ($21 million). The contract calls for an upgrade of the interchange on the crossings of the fifth and first ring-roads and Fahaheel expressway, and modifications to the existing interchange on the crossing of the fifth ring-road with Kuwait International Airport road. Burhan will also make improvements to the 4.5-kilometre-long access road to the airport from Farwaniyah.

Beirut-based Dar al-Handasah (Shair & Partners) is acting as consultant on the project with the local Jassim Qabazzard Engineering Consultants. The client is the Ministry of Public Works (MEED 9:5:04).
