Contract to be finalised by the end of Ramadan
Seven international engineering companies have submitted final bids for a $700m oil pipelines construction deal in Abu Dhabi and expect the contract to be awarded by the end of Ramadan.
The firms handed in price proposals for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract on 25 August. The commercial bid round followed on from technical submissions on 19 July.
Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer) will open the prices by the end of 26 August, sources close to the company say and will finalise the deal with the lowest-cost bidder by mid-Septmber.
The contract covers the construction of more than 900 kilometres (km) of pipelines, ranging from 10 to 28 inches in size. The main part of the deal covers a 230km pipeline linking the Abu Dhabi refinery with Takreer’s Ruwais refinery.

Other pipelines will link the Ruwais refinery, the Abu Dhabi refinery, the Al-Ain storage depot, the Mussafah distribution depot and Abu Dhabi International airport. The contract also covers the construction of around 24 oil storage tanks across the emirate. The winning firm will also build a network of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras along the route of the pipeline.

- Saipem (Italy)
- Samsung Engineering & Construction Corporation (SECC) with Construction & Trading (CAT) (Lebanon)
- SK Engineering & Construction (South Korea) with National Petroleum Construction Company (UAE)
- Technip (France) with China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corporation (CPECC)
