Finland’s Neste Jacobs has been awarded the front-end engineering & design (feed) contract on a project to modify a petrochemicals plant in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi-based petrochemicals group Borouge is planning to modify one of the polyethylene plants at its site in Ruwais in the west of the UAE’s largest emirate.

Neste Jacobs’ contract includes feed services such as process and plant engineering, and project management. The deal is the third feed contract the company has carried out for Borouge under a long-term service agreement between the two companies.

The feed study, which will be carried out by Neste Jacobs’ Abu Dhabi office, is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.

Borouge completed its $4.5bn ‘Borouge 3’ expansion project in 2014, bringing the company’s chemicals production capacity to 4.5 million tonnes a year (t/y).
