Firms await West Bay sewerage tender

15 July 2005
Tender documents are due to be released in mid-July to prequalified contractors for a sewage transfer and treatment system serving the Lusail and the Pearl-Qatar residential projects in the West Bay area. The client is Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company, the developer behind the multi-billion dollar Lusail project (MEED 17:6:05).

The project will involve the installation of a 10-kilometre transfer system from collection points close to the Pearl and Lusail developments and the construction of a new membrane bioreactor for sewage treatment, with capacity of about 60,000 cubic metres a day. Under the fast-track schedule, construction is scheduled to start in October, with completion set for late 2006.

The same nine groups that are shortlisted for the Doha west sewage treatment plant expansion, currently out to tender at the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), have been prequalified for the West Bay project, which will be let on a design, build and 10-year operations basis. For the Doha West project, which covers the addition of more than 60,000 cubic metres of new capacity plus a 10-year operations clause, bids are due to be submitted on 12 July (MEED 13:5:05).

The consultant on both the West Bay and the Doha West projects is the UK's Hyder Consulting.
