Firms prepare to submit prices for Cleveland Clinic in December

Hospital will be built on Abu Dhabi’s Sowwah Island

Mubadala Development Company, one of Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth funds, has set a 17 December bid deadline for the estimated AED5bn ($1.4bn) contract to build Abu Dhabi’s Cleveland Clinic hospital.

Cleveland Clinic will be located on Sowwah Island, between Reem Island and the Mina Zayed area of Abu Dhabi Island. It will be a 360-bed, 220,000-square-metre hospital with parking for 3,200 cars.

Six consortiums submitted technical bids in mid-September.

The bidders are the local/Australian Al-Habtoor Leighton Group; Spain’s Obrascon Huarte Lain with the local Al-Naboodah Contracting; the local Arabtec Construction with Greece’s Aktor; the local/UK Dutco Balfour Beatty with Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company; Saudi Oger subsidiary Oger Abu Dhabi; and the local/Belgian Six Construct Abu Dhabi with South Korea’s Samsung Corporation (MEED 18:9:09).

US-based Aecom is the engineer. Local developer Aldar Properties is managing the construction on behalf of Mubadala.

Mubadala is tendering another major hospital project in Al-Ain.

It has invited construction firms to bid by 4 January for the contract to design and build Tawam Hospital.

The prequalifiers are Aktor; the local/UK Aldar Laing O’Rourke; the local/UK Al-Futtaim Carillion with the local Al-Fara’a General Contracting Company; Al-Habtoor Leighton Group with South Africa’s Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East); Obrascon Huarte Lain and Al-Naboodah; a joint venture of the local/Lebanese Arabian Construction Company with France’s Bouygues; and Australia’s Multiplex.
