First phase of Asian Games site complete

02 February 2009
Construction of the first phase of the 2nd Asian Beach Games site in Oman has been completed, according to the local developer Omran.

This covers the construction of platforms for the athlete’s village, a games court, hotel, marina apartments, a car park and the main entrance area.

Work also covers the development of waterfront facilities, including the sailing park and swimming area. So far, 200,000 tonnes of rock has been delivered to the site for the construction of the marina breakwater.

Omran is the government’s tourism development and investment arm.

The Asian Beach Games will be held near the coastal town of Musannah, one hour from the capital Muscat.

Once the games are completed, the site will be converted into a sports-themed mixed-use development.

The client is the Sports Affairs Ministry and the Oman Olympic Committee.
