First phase of Jubail 2 to be completed in April

12 February 2009
The first phase infrastructure work for Jubail 2, on the Gulf coast of Saudi Arabia, is expected to be completed by April, according to the project manager.

George Dinic, program manager at US consultant Bechtel, says that contracts for stage 2 of the industrial city’s expansion will continue to be awarded throughout the year, despite the global economic crisis.

When complete, Jubail 2 will double the size of the existing Jubail Industrial City. It is being built over four phases, with the cost of setting up the infrastructure estimated at SR14bn ($3.7bn).

A completion date has now been set for 2015.

The Royal Commission for Jubail & Yanbu expects to attract $56bn in investment, largely from international petrochemicals companies (MEED 23:11:09).
