Fourteen international and 15 local contractors were invited to bid for the project, which calls for the upgrade of 2.5 kilometres of carriageway, 10 bridges and a diversion of the existing underground utilities. It also involves the construction of an 800-metre-long stretch of single-lane overpass and a 1.5-kilometre section below ground.

Copri was awarded the KD 23 million ($73 million) contract on the fifth ring-road extension in August (MEED 3:9:04).
