First ring-road bids in

A local/Greek grouping of Copri Construction Enterprisesand AKTORis low bidder for the first construction package on the first ring-road project in Kuwait City. The team's offer of KD 28.9 million ($99.6 million) was almost 10 per cent lower than the second low bid of KD 31.3 million ($107.9 million) submitted by the local Mushrif Trading & Contractingwith Samwhanof South Korea. Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC) is placed third at KD 31.4 million ($108.3 million). The client, the Ministry of Public Works, is expected to award the contract soon (MEED 1:10:04).

Fourteen international and 15 local contractors were invited to bid for the project, which calls for the upgrade of 2.5 kilometres of carriageway, 10 bridges and a diversion of the existing underground utilities. It also involves the construction of an 800-metre-long stretch of single-lane overpass and a 1.5-kilometre section below ground.

Copri was awarded the KD 23 million ($73 million) contract on the fifth ring-road extension in August (MEED 3:9:04).
