Companies applied for prequalification by 28 May for a concession to develop, operate and manage customs operations at the seaports of Shuwaikh and Shuaiba.

The contract will include: the handling and inspection of goods and containers at the two ports; the construction of administration buildings for the southern and northern ports' customs departments at Shuaiba and Shuwaikh respectively; the maintenance of sniffer dog units; the setting up of an IT network to handle customs clearance facilities at both ports; and related services.

About 50 local and international groups are understood to have attended a pre-tender meeting held in Kuwait City in end-April. The client is the General Administration of Customs.
