The bidders for the package, also known as AX 151, are understood to include: the local/South African joint venture of Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterpriseswith Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East); the local/Belgian Bel Hasa Six Construct; the local Bu Haleeba Contracting, with South Africa's Group 5; Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC); and the local/South African Al-Jaber Grinaker LTA.
The contract centres on the construction of: eight aircraft hangars; administration and ground services buildings; a royal terminal, with associated passenger loading and baggage handling; and a main gatehouse. The facilities will accommodate the Emiri flight. Beirut-based Dar al-Handasah (Shair & Partners)is the consultant.
The release of tender documents is imminent for the biggest package - AX 059 - on the airport expansion. The contract, valued at $800 million, covers mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works for terminal 3, concourse 2 and the car parking structure (MEED 16:4:04).
