The flag carrier has been a consistent loss-maker for more than a decade and the move will ease some of the pressure on the Finance Ministry, which has come under fire in recent months from the National Assembly (parliament) over its handling of state funds.

The decision also comes as the government debates a proposal from parliament's economy and finance committee to privatise the airline (MEED 2:4:04).
